Review water project laws underlying the legal foundation and policy supporting Indian water rights and water projects.

Indian Tribes have an important role in the management and allocation of water resources resulting in tribes’ sovereign status including federally recognized water rights. Many of the water right laws are recognized by state law, however, federal reserve rights is recognized as a special water right law, Winters rights. Many tribes and tribal reservations are in the process of establishing or asserting reserved rights over tribal lands. You will review water project laws, practical cases, underlying the legal foundation and policy supporting Indian water rights and water projects, and be able to determine Indian Tribes sole water rights by practicable irrigatable acreage avoiding costly environmental degradation.
